i. Union Square Farmer's Market

At the farmer's market in Union Square, I watched a girl pick up a pair of handmade fried egg earrings. She held them up and said:

"I love these — but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to wear them."

And I thought — how afraid we are of being ourselves. Authenticity is brave. It is powerful, and it is also quite scary.

ii. confession

For years, I was that girl.

Afraid of embracing who I am wholly. I betrayed myself and denied my femininity to fit in this patriarchal world.

Wow, who is she?
iii. the turning

And then I encountered the queer community — and I felt an immense sense of awe.

The trans femme community showed me the joy of embodying the feminine. That it is safe to be feminine. That it is safe to be me.

What is queerness, if not the authentic expression of oneself? A deep, profound self-love that dares to be faithful to one's true essence?

The self-love the queer community embodies is a gift to this world.

iv. the birth
And that is how Emi Woo was born.
A tribute to the queer community.
To the ones who inspired me to live an authentic life.
To the ones who showed me the path —
back to myself, back to my essence, back to love.

The Phoenix
A Symbol of Yin · The First Garment
Image · Hero

A garment for the body alive in its own truth. Silk that moves the way feminine energy does — softly, powerfully, wholly.

The Phoenix — the tender power rising from within.

Dedication
"Here there is no man, there is no woman. Labeling 'male' or 'female' is hollow."
— Tārā, the Liberator

The Phoenix honors Princess Yeshe Dawa — Wisdom Moon — the bodhisattva who, when the monks told her she must take a man's body to reach enlightenment, answered that form has no gender, and vowed to return, life after life, in the form she was given, until every being was free. This collection embodies that vow: the radical practice of belonging, fully, to oneself.
